THE HOME ALONE HOUSE WAS FOR SALE In 2015, the house that was featured in the Christmas comedy from 1990 titled “Home Alone” was put up for sale, however it ultimately sold for roughly one million dollars less than what it was originally listed for.
In the films based on the book “Home Alone,” the protagonist, a little boy named Kevin McAllister, is just as much of a star as the house itself, which serves as the setting for the struggle against the inept thieves.
Although it has undergone significant renovations since then, the red brick colonial-style building is still easily recognised as the McAllister family’s historic house.
The luxurious home built in the 1920s was first advertised for sale at a price of $2.4 million. However, following not one but two price reductions, the amount that was being asked for the property was eventually lowered down to $1.95 million.
After being listed for sale for a gruelling 10 months, the home was eventually purchased. According to the Chicago Tribune, the transaction price dropped even lower to $1.58 million, which is approximately one million dollars less than the property was originally listed for sale for.
John and Cynthia Abendshien, the sellers of the land, have been the owners of the property since the late 1980s. It was claimed that they purchased the property in 1988 for a price of $875,000.

When Christopher Columbus, the director of the first two Home Alone films, approached the Abendshien family about filming the movie in their home, the Abendshiens had only resided in the house for a total of 18 months.

Chris Columbus, the film’s director, explained the decision-making process to Entertainment Weekly by saying, “We needed to cast a house that would work for the stunts and also a house that was visually appealing and, if this makes sense, warm and menacing at the same time.” In other words, the home had to be both inviting and threatening. The sprawling home in the wealthy Chicago suburb of Winnetka spans over 4,250 square feet and three floors. It is located just a few short streets from from Lake Michigan and the upscale village centre.
Despite the fact that the exterior of the house does not have any Christmas lights or other decorations, viewers of the classic films will be able to identify it immediately. Kevin had to spend the night in the attic bedroom with his bed-wetting cousin. The property has an impressive total of 14 rooms, including a stunning dining area, a master suite that is comprised of four rooms and takes up the entirety of the west wing of the house, and an impressive master suite.
